Betty White is a television legend. She was born in Illinois, but during the Great Depression her family moved out west to California. Yeah, she experienced the Great Depression. Right out of school she started her television and modeling career. Her career would be halted as she would join the American Woman’s Voluntary Services when World War II went down.
The war ended and she got into going voice character work on the radio. For a long time she did talk show stuff, radio and television. She would make special appearances on variety shows and game shows, but it wouldn’t be until “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in 1973 that she’d really shine. Then from 1985 through 1992 she was a star on the hit show “The Golden Girls”. From there she’s always been around. From “That 70’s Show” to “Malcolm in The Middle” to “The Simpsons”.
It’s not like she’s not she’s not ALWAYS been around. She has. It’s just that out of nowhere people are starting to recognize her again for her awesomeness. She’s a great comedic actress. Burnett, Tomplin, and others get their fair respect but I think Betty White owns it. She is smart, edgy, sweet, funny, and as well rounded as any likable person can be. And to maintain that credibility, status, and grace for so long makes her one of the best. She’s 88 years old, but back, back, back in the day she was quite the “looker”.
