There is something amazing about Julia Roberts. I don’t even think she’s that great of an actress. Well, let me restate that. She’s a great actress, but not nearly as good as her status would have you believe. She’s just a likeable as can be personality, has all the grace and charm of an old school starlet, and is a strong and sexy role model for women.
To me, the more money she makes per film the less interesting the role. She charmed the world in “Pretty Woman” and was making $300,000. In 2003, she made $25 MILLION DOLLARS for “Mona Lisa Smile”. I don’t care if “Mona Lisa Smile” is your favorite movie of all time, you can’t in your right mind think she was worth that much. Then again, “value” is not an issue. The fact that someone thought she was worth that much means she was. She made more money working a few months on that movie than probably any of us will see in a lifetime. But this isn’t a ramble on Julia Robert’s box office value and worth. She’s more than numbers and dollar signs.
She moved from Georgia to California to get her acting career in motion. She got her big break in “Pretty Woman”, but from there went on to make “Sleeping with the Enemy”, “Hook”, “The Player”, “The Pelican Brief”, “Mary Reily”, “My Best Friend’s Wedding”, “Notting Hill”, “Run Away Bride”, and tons more. And that’s just a list of SOME of the movies she made in the 90s. In 01 she got her hands on an Oscar for “Eric Brockovich” and then made “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Twelve”, “The Mexican”, “The Any Bully”, “Charlie Wilson’s War”, and more and more and more. She doesn’t seem to stop and a good portion of her movies, like them or not because I normally don’t, are very popular and part of pop culture. She’s got “Eat Pray Love” coming up and it looks like something a mom would like. It almost seems like that’s her new demographic and that sucks. She’s got the personality to make some really good comedies that don’t involve rehashed romcom crap. Either way, her career is long from over and she’s holding up VERY well with age.
