Maggie Gyllenhaal has the luxury of being a great actress and strikingly beautiful. She doesn’t have that perfect Barbie doll look, but in her uniqueness are her best qualities. There are plenty of beautiful people and people that are just interesting to look at in the acting world. The thing that’s scary about Maggie is that she’s a really good actress as well. She’s far from it, but when she does start to age she’s not going to have any problems getting work because she’s just so damn good at what she does.
She did scattered TV roles for a lot of her youth, but in 2001 she would be in two movies to garner her some attention, “Riding in Cars with Boys” and “Donnie Darko”. From there it just kind of snowballed into bigger and better things. She got roles in “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, “Adaptation.”, and others. She would get a lot of attention for her sultry and seductive role in the S&M dark comedy “Secretary”. She pretty much got nominated for every award but an Oscar for it. From there it’s been “Mona Lisa Smile”, “Stranger than Fiction”, “Happy Endings”, “World Trade Center”, “The Dark Knight”, “Away We Go”, and most recently “Crazy Heart”. On “Crazy Heart” she rocked it so hard that she was nominated for an Oscar. I always seemed to consider Parker Posey as the Queen of Indies, but Maggie just may have dethroned her with her awesome body of recent work.
Her dad was a director and her mom is a producer/screenwriter so the arts have always been in her blood. Her brother is a famous actor and her husband is very well respected among film lovers. Her place in movie history is already set with the roles she has taken, but it’s the roles she takes in the future that’ll build on her potential legend. Maggie Gyllenhaal is that good.
