Michelle Rodriguez was born in San Antonio, Texas, moved to the Dominican Republic with her mother when she was eight, and then when she turned eleven she found herself in Jersey City, New Jersey. She’d drop out of high school, get a GED, and go to business school for a little while before dropping everything to go after her dreams of being in the filmmaking business. She pursued acting, but she’s always wanted to be a writer or director. Her persistence and dedication paid off as she beat out over 350 others who were auditioning for a role in the 2000 indie “Girlfight”, a low budget movie about a girl becoming a boxer. This instantly got her some indie cred as she won a good amount of awards and nominations for the gig. With this, she was launched into some huge movies including “The Fast and the Furious”, “Resident Evil”, “Blue Crush”, and S.W.A.T. She then had a season long character arch on the hit television show “Lost”. To build her up even more, she was in this little movie called “Avatar”. With that, and the other huge movies she’s been in she’s raked up quite an impressive resume. Movies with Michelle Rodriguez have grossed over 3.6 billion dollars. Sure a large chunk of that can be attributed to “Avatar”, but it’s still an impressive number to throw around for an actress whose career is far far from over or even peaking for that matter. Michelle Rodriguez has quietly become a pretty huge star. She’s been in the biggest movies and biggest television shows while slowly and surely building her stock up. So far so good, if you ask me.
