"All that Jazz"

HI My name is K.L. I’m a dancer. I'm a singer. I'm an actress. I'm a professional princess and I'm a former pageant girl. Oh yeah, and im a female pro-wrestler - well aspiring anyway. I'm probably nothing great but I dream to be someday. Read this blog, leave me questions. Get a view into "the biz", my mind, and all the places you never knew you wanted to go.

I should tell you I grew up watching wrestling. My older brothers had all the action figures and the tiny ring, and when they weren’t looking or if they were particularly mean to me that day the wrestler action figures made great arm candy for my Barbies. My grandfather is a dedicated fan (and looks a lot like Sergeant Slaughter) and I decided I was going to date my first boyfriend in high school when I knew he was a wrestler.

I decided – when I FINALLY decided to explore wrestling – that even though I had watched wrestling a million times before, that I wanted to watch first before anything. And it was probably a terrible idea. I can not begin to explain to you the sound – the real sound – of the ring. Jumping in it, bouncing in it, bumping in it – without doing a thing the sound intimidated me. When you watch on TV you don’t really get to hear this. I can see the moves and flexibility and agility it take on television…. But I don’t get to hear THIS.

At the end of that first practice that I just watched, a few of the boys were scrimmaging, Chris – one of the trainers came up to me and the first thing he asked me “So what? Do you think you can do this?”

I have these dramatic millisecond day-dreams. Like so much happens in a matter if seconds in my mind – and could only be a snap of fingers in the real world. It like in a movie – someone says something to a character – and the character sees herself jump on a desk and attack the first person as if they were a lion…. I get these daily, sometimes more than once. They are quite entertaining - Sometimes I’m in a different world of different time period.

This particular time it was like the opening if the movie musical Chicago when Roxie sees herself as Velma for one sweet note “JAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.”

Watching the boys scrimmaging, my friend Kevin Kross delivered from the top rope & for a split second I saw me there, with a full crowd cheering in joviality in me and Dream me was exuberant - that was the “Jazz.”

“So what? Do you think you can do this?”

JAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

“Definitely” I said rather un-confidently as Kevin’s move delivered a big bang and I immediately regretted my slight confidence. Chris went on the tell me a few things I needed to know for practice & list a few things I would need & actually ended saying “You know, and all that Jazz” I looked at him and all though I was scared with ever fiber of my being I knew I was supposed to be there.
