"4 Reasons Trent Reznor Rules"
12/14/10
BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) HE SCORES!
Trent Reznor has done his share of soundtrack work for some awesome projects. He is listed as a producer on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. It features awesome cuts like “A Warm Place”, “Something I Can Never Have”, and the ever so awesome “Burn”. On The Lost Highway soundtrack he put out a few instrumentals but also the greatest song to never be played live… The Perfect Drug. It doesn’t end there. He almost did the soundtrack for One Hour Photo, but it didn’t work out. What he did do was score the 2010 critical monster “The Social Network”. He has been getting TONS of love for it and rightfully so. His musical contributions to the movie are amazing.

(THREE) RESPONSIBLE FOR OTHERS
When Trent works with someone, odds are that work will be the artists best or damn near close to it. He just seems to bring the best out in people. His work with Saul Williams on his last album is a good example, but I can do better. Back in the day he did some work with a super group called “Tapeworm”. It never panned out, but Maynard used some of the material. One track being “Passive” by A Perfect Circle, easily one of their best songs. Then there is Marilyn Manson. Remember all that good old Manson songs? I’m talking about “Lunch Box”, “Sweet Dreams”, and the whole album of Antichrist Superstar including “Beautiful People”. There are more I could list. There’s even more he’s done remixes for. Those remixes are sometimes better than the original after he gets his paws on them. He’s just that good.

(TWO) SQUEAKY CLEAN
The dude obviously went through a lot. Once he got famous with the huge reception of The Downward Spiral he found himself going too far. With bouts of depression, anxiety, and other personal drama he turned to hardcore drugs. He had a taste for booze and cocaine especially. Thankfully he kicked the habit. He successfully completed rehab and has been clean since. Now he seems to focus that energy on being a mini-version of the Incredible Hulk.

(ONE) BEST MUSIC EVER
Some people have The Beatles. Some have The Stones. Me, I have Nine Inch Nails. Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor. He first started releasing music under the NIN banner in the late 80s. With albums like Pretty Hate Machine, the Broken EP, The Downward Spiral, Fragile, With Teeth, Year Zero, and all the random odds and ends in between… it’s all good. It’s not the dark and gloomy death metal that one would automatically assume once they heard the name. There is aggression, melody, emotion, and some of the most beautiful sounds I have had the pleasure of hearing. Some music is just meant to be heard by certain ears. NIN belongs in mine and I’d suggest giving it a try. If you’re disappointed then your ears are broken.
