"Top 4 Dream SNL Movies 70’s"

BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) FATHER GUIDO SARDUCCI
There are other characters from the early years that could have easily had a movie, but I have to go with this one because Don Novello is going to forever be this character. I know he had cameos all over the place, but on SNL he really got his attention. It’s a chain-smoking priest with tinted glasses and a big mouth. This character had some potential. That’s kind of obvious though as Sarducci appeared on SNL 31 times. That’s way more than any other recurring character. He deserves a retrospect movie just because of that alone.

(THREE) MR. BILL
A friend suggested this one after I went with the “Ambiguously Gay Duo” for the 90’s edition of this series. This was all short film claymation awesomeness. It was written as a parody to a kids show, but I remember loving it as a kid so what do I know. These ran on SNL from 76 to 80. They made a 45 minute featurette in the mid 80’s, but never a full on movie. I’d love to see Andy Sandberg get the leeway to bring this back in Digital Short form in the very least.

(TWO) NICK THE LOUNGE SINGER
Bill Murray is greatness defined. Surprising enough, this is his biggest and most famous recurring character. He was a standard 70’s lounge singer, long winded and unhealthy. A lounge singer movie with Bill Murray could have been insanely successful and funny if the script was right. I’ll even go as far as saying that current Bill Murray playing a 70’s lounge singer could be gold.

(ONE) THE FESTRUNK BROTHERS
I’m fairly certain any fan of early SNL would have killed to see a movie about these two “wild and crazy guys”. The Czech brothers played by Dan Aykroyd and often host Steve Martin were huge. They played naïve playboys looking to blend into American culture…. Pretty much they were out to get laid by American chicks. Good for them too. It ended up being hilarious and probably one of the top ten recurring sketches in the shows history.
