"4 Bands You Should Already Know V.1"

(FOUR) TORO Y MOI
A whole new genre has been put out there in the past few years and most people don’t even know about it yet. I’m talking about “chillwave”. Basically it’s really trippy alternative hip hop. It’s like two parts Pink Floyd, one part “chopped and screwed”, and a splash of surfer rock. Sound weird? Well, it is. Toro Y Moi is one of the forefathers of this music and a great starting point. His only album, “Causers of This” is a trip down trippy lane. Listen, but don’t freak out too much… I warned you.

(THREE) BAUHAUS
Peter Murphy is a vampire. There I said it. I’ve officially gone on record and have stated that if the mythology of vampires were to be real then Peter Murphy is a vampire. There is no doubt about it. The way the way lurks, moves, and stalks while on stage is creepy cool. The way he holds the mic and sings at it… I got shivers just thinking about it. Any who, Count Murphy is/was the lead singer of Bauhaus. Many consider them to be the fathers of goth rock. I dunno about that, but I love their music. “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”, “She’s In Parties”, and all their greatest hits are a must in most of my mix CDs and playlists. They should be on yours too.

(TWO) FRANZ FERDINAND
You’ve probably heard “Take Me Out”. It’s a great song and was so big in comparison to the rest of their work that they may be considered a “One Hit Wonder” to the uninformed. Their latest album “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand!” is easily one of my favorite albums from the past decade. From top to bottom it’s great. There is stuff to dance to, stuff to sing along with, stuff to get fucked up to, and just a lot of stuff… good stuff. Check out “Ulysses” and tell me you don’t like it.

(ONE) NINE INCH NAILS
If you know me, you knew this would be my first pick. Nine Inch Nails is my favorite band of all time. And by that, I mean “Trent Reznor and his friends is my favorite band of all time”. Nine Inch Nails is often brushed aside as something abrasive and angry, but there is a whole side to Nine Inch Nails that most people haven’t heard or given a chance. There are some downright beautiful tracks out there. “Something I Can Never Have”, “Fragile”, “Beside You In Time”, and “Hurt” could swing your predetermined stereotype. There is years worth of material for someone new to expose themselves to. Years of passion, experience, and beauty shared with our ear holes. Recognize, folks. This is as good as music gets. Trust me, there’s more to Nine Inch Nails than being that “I wanna eff you like an animal” band.
