"4 Facts: Howard Stern"

(FOUR) ALMOST A SUPERHERO
In 92 he showed on the MTV VMAs as “Fartman”. I thought it was an original character, but I guess it was in the National Lampoon magazine in the 70s. Despite that, it was pretty popular for awhile and talked about by many. They wanted to make a Fartman movie, but he passed on several scripts. He inked a deal with New Line Cinema to make the movie. They even hired a writer, but it never happened.

(THREE) CENTERED
When in college Howard got into Transcendental Meditation and kept up. He says the meditation and quitting smoking is what helped him achieve his goals. He has been a huge advocate of the practice and has twice interviewed Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of it. For some reason the idea of Howard Stern meditating is kind of funny to me.

(TWO) TV ABSENT
Besides a few appearances on Letterman, you rarely see Howard Stern on TV. For awhile he was all over. He was doing award shows and was doing the celebrity thing like anyone else in his position would. Not so much in recent years. One thing I miss about him is that I used to really enjoy watching his late night show on E!. It was a half hour condensed version of his show and it was raunchy fun. To my surprise, I read it actually ran for eleven years! Wow.

(ONE) FINE GUY
From the years of 1990 to 2004, the Federal Communications Commission has fined radio station owners who have aired The Howard Stern show a total of $2.5 million dollars. It’s pretty much all because of “indecent programming”. To list all the things considered “indecent” by moral hounds would take way too much time. Basically, he was punished for utilizing his freedom of speech. Taste aside, that’s nonsense and good on him for getting out of that crap and doing his own thing on satellite radio.
