(FOUR) RAVEN
(“Come Out And Play” by The Offspring) - This one was a toss up between New Jack, Sabu, and Raven. I pointed at random and this won. I think The Offspring have to be in my top ten least favorite bands list. They seem like okay guys from interviews, but the dude’s voice bothers me and songs get old really fast. I was a big enough fan of Raven that this song became more and more acceptable with me. If I come across it now my brain instantly wants to make me do “the Raven pose”.
(THREE) SANDMAN
(“Enter Sandman” by Metallica) - His name is Sandman, what else is he going to use? That old “Mr. Sandman” song? Eww. No. Sandman came out in pretty much pajamas while drinking beer, smoking cigarettes, and pretty much just wandering around. The whole time he did this, the arenas(or bingo halls) would throb with pulses of the best Metallica has to offer. I can’t hear the song without thinking of this Hardcore Icon.
(TWO) RVD
(“Walk” by Pantera) - Some theme songs in wrestling are just magical. This Pantera tune was perfect for RVD. The whole rally screams of “RE-SPECT-WALK!” was kick ass enough, but then RVD just kind of casually walked out did the “R-V-D” thumb points. He’d walk around the ring, slap hands, ham up the camera by saying “The Whole Fuc*ing Show”, and then he’d proceed to bust out 20 minute thrillfests on the norm.
(ONE) SHANE DOUGLAS
(“ Perfect Strangers” by Deep Purple) - I literally know two songs by Deep Purple. This and Smoke on the Water. I was just a huge mark for “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and his “Triple Threat”. In the mid to late 90’s the guy was awesome. He was a great heel and I was a huge fan of his ring presence and promo skills. His wrestling wasn’t too crazy and more so the basics, but it was aggressive enough to fit into what ECW was doing at the time. That old school classy douche character was perfect for this song. There’s just something cocky about the song that made a grown man coming out in a yellow robe really awesome.
