"4 Underrated Stoner Movies"

(FOUR) POT LUCK
This movie was really low budget, but it still managed to pull off what it intended. It’s a comedy made BY HIGH TIMES magazine that holds its weed at the highest of regards. A big ol’ suitcase of expensive weed ends up bouncing around from an artist, from a dealer(Jason Mewes!), the Mafia, a punk band, and a TV detective. This movie isn’t a masterpiece, but it’s pretty enjoyable. It manages to get Jay Mewes and Tommy friggen’ Chong in the same movie and has one of the catchiest weed songs EVER in it. I would not recommend this movie to the light weights out there. You have to be avidly toked to enjoy this, but it’s worth it.

(THREE) ROLLING KANSAS
If I could include stuff that involves Rip Torn into more aspects of my life then things would be good for me. In this movie Rip Torn plays an old crazy hippy. That should be all I have to say about this one, but it’s a good movie on top of that. Thomas Haden Church directed and cowrote this weed road trip movie. The story revolves around some friends who seek out a magical forest of weed. They don’t smoke a whole lot, but you have to appreciate their respect of the almighty green leaf. And Rip Torn doesn’t hurt.

(TWO) PCU
This is a college movie, but in my brain I’m always going to remember the scenes involving the weed the most. We get a young dread-locked John Favreau living up to the stoner code of life. He’s set out to get beer for a big party and ends up getting stoned with some hippy friends, including Jake Busey, and forgetting about it. All is forgiven though once Favreau meets and befriends legendary funk rock group George Clinton and the P-Funk. They perform for some reason and no one dares to confront anyone about their habits.

(ONE) SMILEY FACE
How this movie didn’t break through to bigger heights is beyond me. I love me some Harold and Kumar but it doesn’t feel right that they got the big cult following and this movie barely got any notice. We have the ever so hot Anna Faris as the stoner lead. Off that bat that is cool because how often do we get a stoner chick’s perspective? It’s always a tye-dye say “whoa” stoner guy. Along with her are Danny Masterson, Adam Brody, and John Krasinski in the weirdest role I’ve ever seen him in. The plot revolves around Faris, a young stoner chick that has to pay the rent. She accidentally destroys her roommate’s weed and then has to go out and try to get money for both the weed and the rent. She’s baked as hell for it so she pretty much just wanders around and gets into more and more trouble. It’s a fun movie. HIGHLY recommended.
