"4 Things 2 Watch: Daytime"

(FOUR) THE VIEW
I’m not embarrassed to admit that I’ll watch The View when I’m up early enough. They cover current events, they yell at each other a lot, and they bring in pretty good guests. It’s just something I watch at 10AM when I’m awake. It’s a great show to drink coffee to and wake up to in the background. It’s easy to mock this show in the SNL ways, but it’s easily the best of the morning talk shows. Regis doesn’t come close.

(THREE) THE DAN PATRICK SHOW
On DirectTV and some other random cable sport channels, you can watch the Dan Patrick shows in the morning and afternoon. If you’re an early riser you can check out the 8 am to 11 am central run or you can turn in like me and go with the replay at 11am to 2 pm. It’s a really good sports show. ESPN always felt a little stuffy, but this show feels a lot looser and is more of a wacky morning radio show. Dan hosts the show. He’ll interview people, take calls, and discuss things like normal radio shows. He also has a supporting cast of workers who all bring their own flavor to the dish. It’s a fun show, but can get a bit overbearing at times. I watched for months, but Dan got douchy around the time of them getting into syndication. Something changed for sure, but it’s still not a bad show to watch once in awhile. I’ll probably watch more come the NBA season.

(TWO) COMEDY CENTRAL RERUNS
Didn’t see Daily Show or Colbert last night? No need to fear my friend, Comedy Central shows reruns like seven times a day. While I’m only slightly exaggerating, you can easily watch the night before’s episodes in the early afternoon. They typically throw random comedy specials and episodes of Futurama around at the time too. You can’t go wrong. It’s a pretty safe bet to turn on Comedy Central in the afternoon and have some good casual entertainment.

(ONE) ELLEN
I really liked the Bonny Hunt talk show, but it got cancelled. When I’d watch that, I ended up watching some of Ellen too. It wore off on me. It’s weird to say, but I think Ellen sometimes gets better guests than the late night guys. Her show is a specific taste, but it works. I could live without the dancing and all the “I saw this rich talented kid on youtube, let’s make their parents richer” special guests, but I still catch the show more often than I’d probably like to admit. I like her. She’s a cool person and I enjoy how she interacts with the guests. I could see her doing well in her own late night show, but I’m pretty content with her being on in the afternoon.
