(FOUR) MAJOR LEAGUE
Charlie Sheen. Wesley Snipes. When you put those two elements together we get one of the coolest baseball movies of all time. Willie “Mays” Hayes, “Wild Thing” and the rest of the players rocked this classic. I don’t feel a need to talk about this one. People know it, people love it, and Charlie Sheen won’t stop talking about it.
(THREE) SANDLOT
One of the best kid-baseball movies I can think of. I could have went with Rookie of the Year, Angel in the Outfield, Little Big League, and a whole bunch more. This movie was a more realistic approach to baseball and kids. Kids get together, they play baseball, and they are in their own world for the time being. It’s a really charming and fun movie. I think I love this movie because it gave us the vernacular of “FOR-EVVV-VER!”.
(TWO) A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
I wanted to make this number one, but I just couldn’t do it for some reason. I love this movie. I saw it at the drive in as a kid. I’m sure there was another movie paired up with it that was more to my liking at that age. Still, this movie is great. Tom Hanks, John Lovitz, Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, and a slew of others made this movie work so well. It’s an enjoyable movie on a lot of levels. It’s historical, it’s sports, its women’s rights, and it’s just good.
(ONE) EIGHT MEN OUT
I used to be a fan of the Chicago White Sox. I was always more of a Cubs fan, but I still supported Chicago teams and the Sox were closer and I got to go to more games as a kid. Then somewhere in my teens I finally got around to seeing Eight Men Out. The movie is awesome, but I’m a bit bias towards John Cusack anyway. The ending with the whole “Say it ain’t so, Joe!” is great stuff. This movie made me realize that the Sox are crap, but under the guise of a really good movie.
