(FOUR) SHOULDER PADS
Early on she made the fashion choice of wearing a suit and tie. Could it be homage to the old school comics? A political statement? Or was she just a fan of shoulder pads? Sadly, I think most people will automatically bring up shoulder pads when they bring up Paula Poundstone.
(THREE) ACTOR IN VOICE ONLY
She was in a movie early in her career, but never went after acting. In reality, I’d think she’d have done well for herself during the comedian sitcom boom in the late 80’s/early 90’s. She still acted, but as a voice actor. She did Science Court and then did Home Movies. I watched Home Movies for years and had never known. Makes sense now that I think about it.
(TWO) FOSTER MOTHER
When she was younger she too was a foster kid. She got older and returned the favor. In the 90’s, she took in three children and raised them by herself. There were some shaky times, but she seems to have gotten herself together and is doing okay.
(ONE) MIXED REVIEWS
You can’t deny the fact that A LOT of people know who Paula Poundstone is. She made her mark in comedy and is going to forever be remembered as a figurehead in stand up. Still, that doesn’t always translate to fandom. Maxim listed her as the 7th Worst Comedian of All Time. Yep, because Maxim knows funny. On the flipside of this coin, Comedy Central listed her as number 88 on the 100 Greatest of All Time. She probably doesn’t care about either one, but it’s still cool that folks have that strong of an opinion about her.
