"Top 4 Eddie Murphy Films of 00s"

(FOUR) MEET DAVE
I actually didn’t mind this movie so much. It was a fluffy PG type of movie, but it was pretty enjoyable if you didn’t go into it expecting much. It turned out to be a “fish out of water” type of movie where everything around Eddie was so weird, new, and an adventure. It did actually remind me of “Coming to America” in that sense, but obviously not in the same ballpark. Elizabeth Banks is also in this movie. That’s bonus points.

(THREE) DADDY DAY CARE
This is another family movie with a good cast. Here we have Jeff Garlin, Steve Zahn, Regina King, Anjelica Huston, Kevin Nealon, Wallace Langham, and a slew of other very capable performers. Eddie carried this one well too. It’s a “normal guys learn that raising kids isn’t hard!” type of movie, but it’s good for what it is. It feels like it’s ALWAYS on TV so somebody has to like it.

(TWO) SHREK
I’ve still only seen bits and pieces of this movie, but I’m not the audience for it. I’m not much of a cartoon guy unless the people are yellow and named Homer. Still, I can tell you what actor plays what character and tell you a little bit about the movies. This franchise is just THAT popular. A lot of people shit on Eddie’s recent work, but even in his family movie work he’s finding some good success. I already said I’m not the market for this, but I’d be a dick to hate on this movie. You would be too.

(ONE) DREAMGIRLS
I think this movie is overrated and got way more love than it should have. On the flip side of that statement I think Eddie Murphy was robbed of an Oscar for his performance here. He has played plenty of characters in the past, but I really can’t think of a time when they weren’t a likeable personality. He was acting, but he was just being his normal charming self with varied levels of humor. In this movie Eddie Murphy was an actor. He CAN do this stuff if he wanted. Eddie Murphy could go out and make an Oscar bait movie tomorrow and in the very least get a nomination. The difference between a Sean Penn and a Eddie Murphy is that Eddie isn’t going to pander to the media, he’s going to make movies real people actually watch. I want him back doing R rated vulgar stuff, but he’s still doing better than most people give him credit for.
