"Top 4 Robin Williams Movies"
11/14/11
BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) MRS. DOUBTFIRE
Robin Williams isn’t one of my favorite actors. When he pops up on talk shows I am typically annoyed by him. That said, I still respect his work and despite it all still appreciate his performances in certain movies and productions. Making a list of four movies was easy as I could have done a Top 10 even without listing anything I didn’t genuinely like. I could have went with a lot of other movies here, but screw it. When I was younger I liked Mrs. Doubtfire a lot. It’s a good movie and his performance is classic. Just think how many people ripped this shtick off?

(THREE) HOOK
Another movie I really dug as a kid. I was never really too into Disney as a kid, but I got behind the Peter Pan stuff. I remember liking the Sandy Duncan live action movie, but not nearly as much as I enjoyed Hook. What is there no to like about this movie? Dustin Hoffman nailed it as Captain Hook, Julia Roberts was a sweet Tinkerbell, and Robin Williams was perfect casting. Seriously, am I missing something? Is this movie NOT really awesome? Why aren’t more people praising it more often? I want to watch this movie again ASAP…

(TWO) ONE HOUR PHOTO
Wanna see Robin Williams be unfunny and extra creepy? Look no further. In this movie Robin Williams plays a lonely photo developer at a WalMart-like store. He develops the pictures and then takes things a little too far with one family. You almost feel sorry for him up to a point, but then that proverbial point is when he reaches a level of creepy that’s unforgiveable. He goes into stalker mode and obsessive mode so effortlessly and somehow graciously that it makes you wonder about the guy. Good movie.

(ONE) GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM
I think too many people sleep on the fact that this is one of the best Vietnam comedies ever made. It doesn’t hold back on the dramatic and depressing side of things, but it also keeps it’s chin up and moves along very nicely. Robin Williams does his Robin Williams thing as a DJ, but shows his acting and drama chops as well. He has had more dramatic roles and more successful moves in gross terms, but I think we get the best of the dude in this one.
