(FOUR) OLD SCHOOL
Jeremy Piven is not the main guy in this movie. Hell, there are probably at least a half dozen people you think of before him. Still, someone had to play the asshole dean. Piven did that and did it perfectly. He was a slime ball and really easy to dislike. If anything, you could say that if he wasn’t as strong of a foil then the good guys’ victory wouldn’t have meant as much.
(THREE) PCU
On the flipside of the Old School coin, we get Piven going against the collegiate authority. It was the early/mid 90’s and grunge was still in full effect. We get Jon Faveru, David Spade, Jake Busey, and a slew of others doing their early 90’s thing. I really think PCU is an underrated movie. As far as college movies go in the 90’s, this HAS to be one of the best comedies. Seriously, give it a watch… or rewatch. It’s way better than Van Wilder.
(TWO) VERY BAD THINGS
Another movie I think is underrated. In fact, this would easily make my “Top 20 of all time” list, possibly even higher. This is one of the best dark comedies of all time. There. I. Said. It. I’ll let YOU go look it up, watch it, love it, and tell your friends about it. I’m talking about Piven. In this movie Piven and his friends get caught up in a crazy Vegas bachelor party. WAY worse and cooler than the awesome movie, “The Hangover”. LOTS of drugs are consumed and people are killed… and killed… and killed. Piven goes crazy and when Piven goes crazy it’s hilarious.
(ONE) ENTOURAGE
Duh. Ari Gold is one of the best characters of all time. Entourage was an enjoyable show over the years, but I think a good chunk of the show’s longevity came from the strong character that was Ari. I can understand someone looking at the show from the outside or catching a random episode here or there hating on it and/or him. He maintained two big things throughout the seasons, his balls out loyalty and his love for his family. Watching all of that evolve was really cool.
