Top 4 Ted Danson Roles
01/30/12
BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM
Ted Danson plays Mr. Mary Steenburgen in this show. Mary is clearly the more entertaining of the two on the show. The episode where she and Larry become sweater-buddies was great. Ted DOES play a “amped up version” of himself. It’s funny and he’s pretty decent with dry cerebral stuff. Whenever he pops up you know Larry is going to do something extra quirky. Yeah… that’s it... Ted Danson is a quirk enhancer.

(THREE) THREE MEN AND A BABY
If the men of Three Men and a Baby were to have a set of traditional marital roles, Ted Danson would the man. Hear me out. I know Tom Selleck’s stash IS part of the equation. It’s just Danson was always away doing weird acting gigs. He’s the “working father”. And correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t HE the actual father. I forget. Oh yeah! He’s also in the scene where the “ghost” is in the background. Remember that?!

(TWO) BORED TO DEATH
I’m pissed this show was cancelled. It was a great little show that I was generally excited to watch and enjoyed as consistently as any other top comedy. Ted Danson isn’t a lead in this. He plays the old eccentric publisher friend of Jason Schwartzman. Those two along with Zach Galifianakis got into a lot of shenanigans for the three seasons it was on. There were a few moments in the show where I laughed harder than any other show on TV. I can specifically think of one moment involving a fight and a toy riding horse. I really hope they pull some Columbo shit and do some made for TV or straight to DVD/PPV movies.

(ONE) CHEERS
Is there any doubt about this? I think the main reason I’d be writing about Ted Danson and why you’d be reading about Ted Danson. Cheers is part of Americana and will forever be part of our pop culture. The cast was great, but Ted was obviously the anchor and the lead. He WAS the show. Being Sam Malone put him on the map and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. He’ll live forever in reruns because of this show.
