(FOUR) GALAXY QUEST
Over the years Galaxy Quest has grown to be a pretty big cult hit. It’s a sci-fi parody comedy that features Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, and others. I’ m not forgetting Alan Rickman. He’s playing his weirdest character for sure. He’s “Alexander Dane” aka “Dr. Lazarus”. He’s an English actor who hates the typecasting he found himself in after playing an iconic sci-fi TV show character. He’s basically “Spock”. He’s pompous, but eventually comes around in the end. He’s like the “Charles Winchester” of the movie. He does it well.

(THREE) DOGMA
This is my favorite movie on this list, but I have to give proper credit where it’s needed. Kevin Smith hit it out of the park with this one. He put together a great movie here and an even greater cast. Alan Rickman plays “Metatron”… the voice of God. Have you heard Alan Rickman speak? If he really WAS the voice of God I’d get a whole lot more religious. Sadly, the “God” figure in my head doesn’t sound as cool as Rickman.

(TWO) ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES
This 1991 movie is really slept on. It was a solid movie. I remember loving it as a kid and actually having a small play set from it. In retrospect I REALLY liked this movie… or my parents did. I need to rewatch it. One thing I’m sure of is that Alan Rickman was great. I remember him as the Sheriff of Nottingham. He was just so vile, snobbish, and unlikeable. Great stuff and it had an impact on me. It’s one of the first things I think about when he’s brought up. Most people will say the number one though…

(ONE) DIE HARD
I once heard someone say, “The first Die Hard is the ONLY Die Hard”. The script and performances were amazing. It’s one of the best action movies of all time. One could say it’s because Bruce Willis’s “John McClane” is at his most bad ass. Others could say because the villain he had to overcome was just THAT awesome. The villain was “Hans Gruber”, played by Mr. Rickman. This is the movie that put him on the American map and rightfully so.
