Top 4 Episodes: Scrubs

(FOUR) "MY LIFE IN FOUR CAMERAS"
This episode was a lot of fun. A writer of Cheers shows up and JD starts to imagine what his life and job would be like if it were a traditional laugh track/four camera sitcom. Meanwhile, some serious stuff was going on. There are budget cuts and Dr. Cox is forced to deal with hard decisions. The sitcom stuff is fun and the Cox part is a heartbreaking reality. This kind of balance would become a common theme.

(THREE) "MY SCREW UP"
Scrubs had a knack for putting on some really heart-ripping dramatic episodes. This was one of them. Brendan Fraser shows up as Jordan’s brother. He and Dr. Cox get along and are all chummy and cool. Then Fraser’s character informs him that he stopped going to the doctor since remission. This was a rough scenario. Meanwhile, Dr. Cox takes these emotions out on JD. This episode was just really solid and I think summed up a lot what kind of emotions the show can bring up.

(TWO) "MY MUSICAL"
This episode was great. A lot of TV shows have done “musical episodes”, but this one came in a time when it was fresh and didn’t feel forced by a network pushing another show. The premise was that a patient shows up and can only hear music. Everything that is said to her comes off as if it’s being sung in comical musical ways. This leads to some great songs and great scenes, but the show still didn’t lose any focus on sticking to the dramady side of things.

(ONE) "MY FINALE"
This is where the show should have ended. They tried to carry it on after this, but they really shouldn’t have. I generally enjoyed the revamp of the show, but it should have been its own thing. It would have had a better chance to survive if it didn’t have such high expectations attached to it. This is because Scrubs was a really good show. It lasted for 8 seasons (9, if you could the last one) and had a great run. It’s going to live in syndication forever and I’ll always find myself checking out from time to time. Good TV is good TV and great TV is timeless. Scrubs fits into that mold. We really got to see this in the episode “My Finale”. This one showcased everything this show was always about, humor and heart. Keeping your light in a job that can be very dark at times. The character grew on us and with us and the final scene of “My Finale” captures that. If you’ve ever been a fan of the show, you really need to see this episode for the real closure of the series.
