BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) ROOTS
Ferguson was born in Scotland. He first visited the states as teenager. In his standup he talks about this with a great story about him and his cousin going to his first rock concert and getting stoned. This made him fall in love with America and music. He got into music as a drummer for a band called Exposure and then onto a punk band. A band mate talked Craig into trying stand up. He’d get into acting as well. He took on a few roles here and there including as Brad in the London production of Rocky Horror.

(THREE) USA! USA! USA! DREW CARREY!
Craig is now an American citizen. He loves this place. He got here in 1994 and bounced around for a while. In 1996 he landed the role on The Drew Carrey Show. He’d leave the show in 2003, but would still show up until the end. While on the show, he wrote and put out his own projects and got to explore more creative aspects of the profession.

(TWO) HOSTFUL
Since January of 2005, Craig Ferguson has been the host of The Late Late Show on CBS. Craig continues to innovate and bring a whole new spin to late night. He’s classy, he’s crazy, he’s brass, and he’s hilarious. Who else has a robotic skeleton as their sidekick? The stage is so small he can’t even have a live band. It’s just this one crazy guy, a robot, and a small studio. Somehow magic happens. No one ever talks about it, but Craig beats Conan and Fallon regularly. Remember that when you’re pissed that someone else didn’t get the Late Show hosting gig once Letterman turns to ash.

(ONE) OTHER STUFF
Craig Ferguson isn’t shy about being adventurous. I remember a few years back he had a big part on Shark Week. He has a pilot’s license. He can play the harmonica. He has written books. He in in movies. He is on TV. He narrates Winney The Pooh movies. He just seems like a guy who is taking full advantage of being able to live life. You can’t hate that.
