(FOUR) ELIMINATION CHAMBER
I know I’ve been watching wrestling for a long time because the Elimination Chamber still feels like something new to me. It’s been around for like a decade now. It’s the closest thing we get to a “Thunder Dome”. The structure is really cool, the random entry countdowns are cool, but this match feels too much like a video game idea than a normal big deal. I think it’s because I feel like cage matches should be reserved to settle wars, not an annual multi-man title match with little build towards. The Elimination Chamber is never the exclamation mark to a storyline. It’s always a hurdle or additional plot point.
(THREE) TRADITIONAL WWF BLUE BAR CAGE
I recently learned this big blue cage only exists because King Kong Bundy couldn’t climb a normal cage. In theory this cage is a little hokey. I still have a soft spot for it because it’s the cage match I grew up on.
(TWO) HELL IN THE CELL
I know they’ve all not been the greatest, but Hell in the Cell matches is such a spectacle that it’s an event within itself. It’s a larger than life cage where people have been thrown off the top, and through the top. A lot of people have added huge career moments because of this match.
(ONE) WAR GAMES
The NWA/WCW era of things gave us a lot of cool things. I think the coolest just might be the War Games match. This match was made for kick ass stables like the Four Horsemen or even the Dungeon of Doom (they did too kick ass!). It had the countdown of a royal rumble, the craziness of a cage match, and it involved TWO rings. You needed two rings because each team had four guys on it! I realize the fact that they had two rings for this makes it harder to reproduce in today’s world. I can only imagine how awesome Evolution being in War Games during their stint. Still, I’d like to see this brought back sometime and somehow…
