(FOUR) RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION
I know a lot of people will automatically shun a movie like this. I can understand how someone would think that this is just another a popcorn sci-fi flick franchise that keeps cranking out shitty sequel after shitty sequel. The truth is that these movies are pretty decent and a lot of fun. Maybe it’s because I was never really into the games, but I really dig the world and story that’s been created with these movies. There is some fun fighting scenes, Milla Jovoich kicks major ass in the leading role, and movie’s mythos has grown into a full on experience. Paul W.S. Anderson does these movies justice. I don’t see how this one will be any different. The trailer looks fun and I won’t be satisfied until Alice finally takes down Umbrella. I will see this movie as soon as I can. I don’t care what anyone thinks!

(THREE) TOTAL RECALL
The 1990 version of this movie was awesome. It’s probably one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s top five science fiction movies. There are moments in that movie that I’ll never forget. It borders on the “so bad it’s good” level of things. This 2012 remake looks like it has potential to do the same. Colin Farrell is in the lead this time. It’s the future and a normal everyday guy has horrible nightmares. He starts to come to terms with and discovers that he is a bad ass spy whose mind had been altered. The cast is strong. Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel are hot and strong in this. The coolest shit here is that Bryan Cranston is the villain! That is awesome. He looks ridiculously sci-fi and over the top. The old one is a cult classic. I’m sort of excited to see if this one will be as wonderful. I think a lot of people are going to give it a chance purely on that.

(TWO) THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN
I’m not as open minded to this as I say I am. The truth of the matter is that I really don’t care much about this movie. I enjoyed the recent trilogy as a whole. The performances and tone was good. I’ve never been a huge Spiderman fan so sitting through his origin story again isn’t someone I want to do. I’m not sure how I feel about Andrew Garfield. He’s been good in the stuff I’ve seen him in, but he just doesn’t have a relatable presence to him as I’d hope such a lovable superhero would have. The trailer makes the character seem snarky. It’s interesting they’re going with more of a teenage route for him and Emma Stone showing up as “Gwen Stacey” is welcomed. Other than that, there just isn’t much going on here. This whole thing just feels like it’s leading up to disappointment. There are a lot of big action movies coming out. I’m sure this will make its money back, but this just screams “forgettable”. I have negative vibes going in, but I’m still going to watch it with as open of a mind as possible. I could just be subconsciously lowering my expectations so I like it better when I do finally watch it. I dunno though. A snarky teenage Spiderman who doesn’t have a relatable presence fighting off a big lizard? We’ll see…

(ONE) THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
I want to see this movie right now. I can’t think of many things I’d not pass on or delay to watch this movie as soon as possible. The Dark Knight was one of the best movies to come out in a long time. It’s a modern classic. I’m not saying it’s the best movie of all time, but I have not seen a super hero movie on that level ever and I doubt I will again. Saying that, I know it’s foolish to think The Dark Knight Rises will be better than The Dark Knight. I don’t care if it is or isn’t. I want it to be good on its own and put a nice close to Christopher Nolan’s amazing Batman trilogy. I thought Batman Begins didn’t get enough love and that The Dark Knight, as great as it is, is a big overrated. My expectations in that department are in check. It’s that closure. I don’t care how bad ass Tom Hardy is as Bane, Anne Hathaway is as Catwoman, and how the slew of other top tier actors are. Of course I want a great story, but it’s that closure to the entire trilogy that will make or break this movie. The good thing is that we’re talking about Christopher Nolan here. The guy doesn’t screw around with mediocrity. Of all the 2012 summer action movies, this is the one that has me waiting like a kid on Christmas Eve. Someone send me a screener! Please!
