4 Needed Remakes
07/30/12

(FOUR) MAJOR LEAGUE
If they can remake Total Recall, they can remake anything. Here are a few franchises I’d like. First up is one of the most beloved baseball movies in modern comedy. This is not the only ensemble on this list, but I’d like to see it. Maybe have Charlie Sheen play a coach or something, but don’t kid us with him playing. This is the perfect chance to start a new franchise. Bring in some new character actors, find a couple solid leads, and run with it. These movies write themselves, they just need a good line up. No pun really intended… really!

(THREE) BEST OF THE BEST
I’m sure most people won’t remember these. I think this was my first young exposure to Eric Roberts. It was kind of like JCVD’s “Bloodsport” meets “Karate Kid” for adults. A group of martial artists are in fighting tournaments. They cranked out a couple movies in this franchise, but I could see it being pretty decent now. People love MMA and shit. Why not give it to them in a classic franchise reboot?

(TWO) MEATBALLS
From Bill Murray to Corey Feldman I honestly enjoyed all of the Meatball movies. Even the weird one with the alien and the later ones that no one but myself and about four other people saw. I’m surprised this franchise has sat on the shelf for so long. They had no problem putting out lower end sequels. I don’t get why they haven’t tried with new ones. A Joel McHale or a Danny McBride would be great in a leading role like this. The only thing I’m unsure about is that if there is even camp anymore? Beside the shitty ones bad parents send fat kids and horrible religious jerks sent their gay kids?

(ONE) POLICE ACADEMY
If I had any clout in Hollywood, we’d be on the third sequel of a new Police Academy franchise by now. The original franchise had a great collection of memorable characters in a really basic and silly script. Still, the heart and charm of the rag-tag group of cops made you want to cheer them on against their lame villains. Even the later ones without Mahoney weren’t that bad. I’d love to have a crack at putting together a modern team. There are so many potential awesome casting routes they could go. Someone please listen to me!
