4 Things I Don’t Miss V.9

(FOUR) SWEENY TODD
Johnny Depp is one of the best actors out there. He has been in some of the best movies off time and has earned all of the success and accolades he has received. He’s in a few of my all-time favorite movies and I’m always interesting in what he’s doing next. The problem is that sometimes he’ll take a movie role that he just can’t save. I love the risk taking and the mad effort, but they all can’t be winners. And really, this is all subjective because what I like is surely what I won’t. Regardless, here’s my rambling picks. I knew about this play before seeing the movie. I knew the story and knew some of the moments. I was genuinely looking forward to the movie. It wasn’t fun to watch. I have to blame the face of the movie for that. It was like he put on a costume and slept walked through the gloomy settings.

(THREE) BARNABAS COLLINS (DARK SHADOWS)
This character felt like a mesh up of like five other characters we’ve seen Depp put out there. It doesn’t help that I didn’t like the movie, but Depp’s performance did nothing to save it for me. He’s just there, being creepy goth in some parts and being charmingly humorous in others. It’s a rinse and repeat situation. The tone of the movie was just off.

(TWO) CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW(again)
Pirates of the Caribbean is a fine franchise, but it shouldn’t keep going. It was fun for a while, but now it’s just floating adrift in a sea or “meh”. People are going to flock to see it and it’ll make tons of money. I’d just rather see Johnny Depp explore other characters instead of letting this awesome character’s legacy fade with each watered down sequel. Pirates of the Caribbean is becoming the Fast and Furious of action/adventure movies. (not a good thing!)

(ONE) WILLY WONKA
This performance just didn’t do it for me. It was creepy and off-putting and not in a fun way. The movie didn’t feel nearly as organize and real as the original. Depp most likely could have played the character different and made it a different movie, but he got what we got and that’s the movie. Depp has his own accomplishments and awesomeness, but this proved that Gene Wilder will always be Willy Wonka.
