4 Stand Ups That Should Be on SNL

BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) HANNIBAL BURESS
Hannibal is one of the best stand ups out there today. He’s quickly on the rise and he’s probably way too big at this point to be a cast member on SNL. He wrote on the show from 2009 to 2010 and moved on to 30 Rock and now he’s one of the most respected up and comers out there. Then again, he’s so awesome that it’s almost criminal to call him an “up and comer”. This WOULD have been cool, but I’d still take it if it were possible. He’d be awesome.

(THREE) DUNCAN TRUSSELL
I’m such a huge fan of this guy. Duncan is a stand up, actor, and podcast host. His “Duncan Trussell Family Hour” podcast show is easily one of my top three podcasts right now. He’s hilarious, he’s human, and he’s got a perspective that I don’t SNL has ever had before. He’s not so much a “hippy”, but he has a smart sensibility that reminds me of the original “Not Ready for Primetime Players” cast. That’s obvious a HUGE compliment.

(TWO) JAMES ADOMIAN
I’ve been saying James Adomian should be on SNL since like two minutes after first knowing he existed. He’s awesome on podcasts. He is hilarious in his stand up. He is GREAT at impressions. He has been on Comedy Bang Bang, Last Comic Standing, Craig Ferguson, and he even played Bush in “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay”. The dude has been around, but he’s still not getting close to any of the attention he’s due. He’s probably past the point of joining the SNL cast, but he might go down as one of the biggest misses in SNL history. The man is great.

(ONE) TONY HINCHCLIFFE
That’s Tony H plus Inch plus cliff plus E… or something like that.Tony is a comedian, roaster, and podcaster. He’s one of the funniest and wittiest young comedians I’ve had the pleasure of hearing lately. He has a great delivery and is a huge smart ass. He looks like an asshole you’d normally want to beat up, but the second he drops his comedy bombs on people that impression is blown up. He’s getting writing work on shows and seems to be getting out on the road more. He has the vocal cadence that would be GREAT for a Weekend Update type of segment, but I think his talent in general would be a nice step in the continued evolution of SNL. When I see his name listed as a guest on a podcast that podcast goes to the top of the list. He just started doing a show with Redban at Deathsquad not too long ago where he and a guest or two will help a rookie comedian after delievering a minute of material. It just seems so natural for the guy. If he doesn’t get to the SNL landscape, he’s going to get out there regardless.
