4 Dream SNL Hosts 2013
09.20.13
BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) MARC MARON
Marc Maron’s WTF podcast is the best podcast ever. I think that’s an official thing now. We all agree and he keeps getting awesome and interesting guests. He now has a show on IFC, the same station as the Lorne Michaels produced “Portlandia”. So maybe THAT could be an “in”. One of Marc’s many hang ups have been his issues with the SNL hiring process. He obviously loves and values the show like the rest of us comedy nuts. I would love to see him give it a shot, to hear his analysis on the experience, and then to see SNL realize he’s awesome and give him a recurring bit or something. All of that needs to happen.

(THREE) NICK OFFERMAN
The great “Ron Swanson” should host SNL for sure. Other people on the show have had their chance to host and have done great. I have no problem with anyone from Parks hosting SNL, but I’d prefer Offerman to be next. He’s a really funny guy outside of the character we’re all a fan of. He’s great in interviews and has a strong history. He’d more than carry his own on the show and I’m sure would bring something completely new and awesome to the table. Hell, he’d probably BUILD the table. That damn Offerman!

(TWO) DAVE CHAPPELLE
Dave Chappelle has been doing stand-up on the low for a while now. I keep hearing he’s doing sets here and there while working on new material. Being a fan of comedy, of fucking course I’m excited about this. Even before he blew up on “The Chappelle Show”, I was a big fan of his stand up, “Half Baked”, “You Got Mail”, and his smaller spots like the episode he had on “The Larry Sanders Show”. The guy is just hilarious and has a great charisma. He’s getting ready to go on a huge tour as part of the Funny or Die Festival. I’d love to see him host SNL. If he wanted to and legally could, it’d be awesome to see him show up as a few of his old characters as well as new ones. Dave Chappelle hosting SNL would be a BIG moment and one that I think we’d all appreciate very much.

(ONE) DANIEL DAY-LEWIS
This would just be too cool to be possible. It’s said that Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the best actors of all time. I agree with that. He’s one of the best actors of all time FOR SURE. I don’t think we can even debate it at this point. The method to his madness is getting lost in the character. He goes deep into the character and brings out the magic in it. If he was given eight to ten different characters to learn, study, and perform then he’d probably go crazy. Hell, if I saw him in those eight to ten sketches then I’d probably go crazy too. Can you win an Oscar for a Weekend Update character? Daniel Day-Lewis would find out.
