"4 Facts: David Cross"
9/30/10
BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) SOUTHERN BOY
He’s mentioned it before in his comedy, but it’s still kind of hard to believe that this very outspoken liberal was born and raised in Georgia. He was raised mainly by his mother and was poor coming up. He isn’t shy to talk about how much he dislikes rednecks.

(THREE) CELEBRITY FEUDS
One of my favorite David Cross facts and stories is how he so masterfully cut “Larry The Cable Guy” down. He doesn’t let up and why should he? He’s better than that fake-twang having human fart. They’ve gone back and forth, but Larry’s arguments back are pretty much from the “I’m rubber and you’re glue” book of banter. Another more publicized one was him being vocal about calling James Lipton and his show “pretentious”. They’d go on to work together on Arrested Development and become somewhat friends, but he still doesn’t hold back on his thoughts on the show.

(TWO) MUSIC TIES
It’s always cool to hear about and see your favorite comedians, or any figure for that matter, enjoying the same things you like. It’s not like an “omg. We both drink water! We’re bffs!” type of thing, but it’s just… I guess vindication that you’re supporting someone cool. David Cross has been music videos. He was featured in the “Juicebox” video by The Strokes and some videos for The New Pornographers, Superchunk, Yo La Tengo, and others. He’s also on some music related DVDs. He did commentary for the Vicarious music video DVD that Tool put out and performed as Nathaniel Hornblower in the 2006 Beastie Boys DVD. He has even directed a music video for The Black Keys. I’m sure there is more, but that’s just some of the musical ties Cross has to his credit.

(ONE) VERY UNDERRATED ACTOR
Comedians that get known as a comedians seem to have a hard time being taken serious as an actor. This is especially the case when the comedian takes on a role in a comedy. It’s pretty unfair in this case. It’s not as if “David Cross The Comedian” is a character being replicated in the movies and shows he’s on. He takes it to another level. He can play goofy and weird, but he has been in some really cool projects. Do I even need to say anything after dropping the name “Tobias”? Yeah, he rocked on Arrested Development. He has been in a lot of stuff. He’s done The Drew Carey Show, NewsRadio, Just Shoot Me, Aqua Teen, Family Guy, Wonder Showzen, Law and Order: Criminal Intent!, and now Running Wilde. On the movie side, it’s awesome too. He was in Pootie Tang, Scary Movie 2, Men in Black II, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I’m Not There, Year One, and about a million more movies. He hads the lead in “Run Ronnie Run”, but most involved disowned that movie. I still think there’s an awesome lead role in a movie out there for him. I just pray it’s not “David Cross: Health Inspector”.
