"Top 4 "Scariest" Wrestling Characters"
10/30/10
BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

(FOUR) GANGREL
Yeah, none of these are REALLY “scary”, but rather “spooky”. For this spot I could have went with a lot. Boogeyman, Vampiro, Raven, Sting, Abyss, and others all have a sense of horror movie-style to their appearance. There are plenty more. I choose Gangrel because over the couple years he was around the gimmick and personality never changed. He had absolutely no character development. He was the creepy vampire guy who had the really cool fire entrance. With a lot of characters we eventually get to see multiple sides of the personality. We never got that chance with Gangrel so his characterization is that much stronger.

(THREE) KANE
The old Kane was cooler. The mask, the perm, the red and black body suit. Back in the day he had more mystique to him. Then even without the mask when he was going crazy trying to marry Lita and putting jumper cables on Shane McMahon’s unmentionables. That was fun too. When he came in it was like he had an instant hall pass to being a main eventer and threat all because he debuted as Undertaker’s brother. Kane is also the only person on this list to star in a horror movie. He’s can be a scary guy for sure.

(TWO) MANKIND
I’m not sure if Mankind is as scary as the self indulgent douche that Mick Foley has become. That sucks because at one point he was among my favorite top three, maybe even two wrestlers in wrestling. Mankind is one of the reasons why. Mick Foley has had a few notable characters, but the original Mankind is easily the most interesting of the bunch. The character was loosely based off of a “Hannibal Lector” type of character. To me it was that, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and a little Leatherface for good measure. The character was great and one of the most psychotic of all time.

(ONE) UNDERTAKER
Was there any doubt about this one? It’s the fricken’ Undertaker. For like a million years now, Undertaker has been a staple in professional wrestling. The original image was the slow walking, brooding, tall glove, Amish-looking hat, silent but violent Undertaker. Then over the years he has evolved. He had that period where he was a Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit loving biker, but outside of that he’s always been the go-to-guy for all that is “spooky” in wrestling. He even had an evil occult phase where he sacrificed people. Even now, at the age of 97 (loose estimate), he’s still shooting lightning bolts, making the lights go out, and dealing with urns.
