"Top 4 Robert Downey Jr. Comedies"

(FOUR) TROPIC THUNDER
People like this role, but it didn’t really do it for me. Hell, the movie didn’t either. I include this because I’d be a jerk for not. It’s pretty funny, but my issue is that it gets old quickly and they rely on racial stereotype just to a tad too long. A skit, a flash back, an appearance… okay, but it was just long and over blown for my enjoyment. I’m sure I’ll watch it again in the future, but for now it’s just not my cup of tea. I hope you’re happy general census!

(THREE) BACK TO SCHOOL
Robert Downey Jr. isn’t the star of this movie. Hell, he’s not even really part of the plot of this movie. He plays the supporting role of Derek Lutz, friend to Rodney Dangerfield’s son. Regardless, I still remember Robert Downey Jr. being in it more than most of the plot. His “punky dork” type of character was a great and goofy sidekick. If you like Culkin in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World then you’ll love this character. In retrospect it’s pretty cool think that Robert Downey Jr. got to work with the awesomeness that was Rodney.

(TWO) WEIRD SCIENCE
Again, Robert Downey Jr. is not the star of this movie, but he IS a bit more important to the plot. He and some jock-ish guy are the “bad guys” in the movie. He’s pretty much the same character as a Cobra Kai in Karate Kid, but he doesn’t know karate. It’s a generic role, but he added some charm to the character and made it entertaining.

(ONE) KISS KISS BANG BANG
This 2005 dark comedy was a fun one. Robert Downey Jr. stars as a small time crook that gets involved with some serious drama. This situation means he ends up being partnered with Val Kilmer, a private investigator. It’s a funny back and forth comedy that’s often underappreciated. If you get a chance, take the time with it. It’s pretty good and Robert Downey Jr. is at his funniest.
