The Hangover: Part II

BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

If you were one of the 5th doctors who thought The Hangover “wasn’t that funny” then go figure out a way for you to kick yourself in the groin. Really, figure that shit out because you’re going to be a lonely person when you get older and that kind of party trick MIGHT get you an occasional moment of eye contact. What I’m saying is that no matter how you slice it, 2009’s comedy hit The Hangover is an instant classic. It’s going to be considered one of the funniest movies of this current era and that’s all there is to it. It made a lot of money so naturally a sequel was almost instantly ordered for it. Off the bat, everyone knows that sequels rarely EVER live up to the hype. I think this is why they’re phrasing their name like how Coppola did the second Godfather, one of only a few excellent sequels. The others being Waynes World, Bill and Teds, and The Dark Knight. I’ve still remained optimistic. Everyone has. Of course we all want MORE of the movie we all loved. After seeing the latest trailer for The Hangover: Part II it’s easy to see that MORE of the movie we all loved is EXACTLY what we’re getting. It seems like this movie has the SAME plot as the first one. They wake up, crazy shit is around them and to them, and they then have to put the pieces together to figure it out. Hilarity ensues. It looks funny as shit, but the problem is that I fear that this trailer gives WAAAAAY too much away. I wanted to see this movie the second it was available no matter what. Now it feels like I know too much. Through news items I think we all know where Ed Helms gets the tattoo. We’ve seen some of the other surprise points. I’m SURE they’ll have more, but I’m almost pissed I saw this. I feel like I’ve been let too far behind the curtain. I’d much rather go into this one with a completely clean slate like I did the first. I know that’s not possible. I think I may have been too optimistic and expected my mind to be blown. It still might, but the trailer did kind of put a realistic leveling to my expectations. Whatever. I’m excited.
