Everything I know about Thor is thanks to the 80’s comedy “Adventures in Babysitting”. By that I learned that Thor is a “God” and he’s a big dude with long hair and he has a big hammer. That’s about it. I don’t think I’m alone in this one. The general public knows the backstory on Batman, Spiderman, Superman, and the classics. Yeah, to comic purist Thor IS a classic. To the average dude Thor is just another character. I don’t think there’s anything too special about the character that’s going to have me getting excited. It’s really all based on ignorance though. I just don’t know enough to be fair about it. I love me some Natalie Portman and it’s cool and hell to see Idris “Stringer Bell” Elba get his mug on a huge movie poster. The trailer didn’t do the movie any favors in my eyes. What’s the difference between Thor and the other seventeen dozen superhero movies out there? Is he a time traveler? Did he fall from heaven? What? Actually, no… don’t tell me because I don’t care. It looks like a weird “fish out of water tale about a guy with a hammer who has to fight his past to save his present”. Am I wrong, but isn’t that the SAME plot as “Masters of the Universe”… minus the hammer. I’m sure this crap came first in form of comic pages, but I was like 4 or 5 when I saw it and it made a huge impact. Maybe a 4 or 5 year old will get the same out of this movie. A man in his late 20’s? Not likely. Of course I AM going to see this movie, but eventually. I’m not going to go out of my way to see it and I really have no interest in it. I’m sure it’ll be a good pop corn flick and will have some impressive aspects, but I’m worn out on this stuff. You know those stories about how when a kid is forced to smoke a whole bunch of cigarettes by their dad as a punishment for being caught smoking one? That’s how I feel about these superhero movies. I enjoyed it, but now dad… or these production companies… is forcing us to smoke a whole carton of superhero movies. Thanks for the emphysema dad!
