“Get your damn hands off me, you dirty ape!” That’s what came to mind when I first heard of this movie. I was never a fan of the Planet of the Ape movies. They always seemed a little too hokey for me. I’m okay with cheesy and goofy, but hokey is where I draw the line. The trailer for this upcoming prequel/origin story of “the planet of the apes” snuck in front of my eyes. I like James Franco so I paid attention. This looks somewhat cool. Like I said, I wasn’t a fan so I never really took into consideration their origin. I just accepted that Moses was on crack. The tone is what has me interested. It paints a “this COULD happen” picture pretty nicely. There is a sense of urgency and seriousness that make sci-fi movies better. If a sci-fi movie moves a long quick enough then you’ll more than likely be able to ignore logic and reason. The apes look cool and intimidating enough. For an August release, I’d not be surprised to see this movie dominate a few weekends. I’m not going to be hitting up the theatre to see this one, but I’m sure I’ll catch it down the line on DVD or maybe even eventually on a basic cable channel like FX or something.
