I remember hearing about a Seth Rogen “cancer comedy” a while back. All I knew was that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Rogen were starring and it would eventually come out. The first trailer popped up for it recently and it looks decent. I expected something that looked and sounded more “Apatow-esque”, but it looks to be a more serious indie style movie. It looks like there will be some really funny lines in it, but also an assload of character depth. Probably more of a “cancer dramady”, which is still cool with me. I like seeing Seth Rogen spread his wings a little. He’s still being funny, but with a totally different substance behind it. At the same time Joseph Gordon-Levitt is funny and charming, but I’d like to see him do a little more slacker comedy. So this movie gives me all that. It’s directed by the dude who did “The Wackness” from a few years ago. That’s another perk because if it looks half as visually stunning as that flick then we’re in for a pretty cool movie. I don’t think this movie will gross a whole lot of money. I’m sure it’ll do well and will make a profit, but it doesn’t seem like one of those big budget A-List comedies. This will do awesome with critics, movie nerds, and maybe even the award people. Then again it could still end up being a bit hokey. If anything, this trailer has me optimistically interested. I see no reason I’m not going to do my damnedest to see this movie.
