The Muppets Movie
06.30.11
BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

I’m a big fan of Jason Segel. I’ve not seen one single performance of his that I did not enjoy. He wrote this movie with Nicholas Stoller and he stars in it. We also get Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, Ricky Gervais and Emily Blunt. That’s enough star power to make up for the fact that Kathy Griffin and my arch nemesis Billy Crystal are involved. The whole gang we all grew up with is here. The plot is perfect and reminds me a lot of The Blues Brothers. The old Muppet Theater is going to be torn down so an evil millionaire named Tex Richman(Cooper) is going to drill for oil. They need ten million dollars to save the theater and the only way is a Telethon. So the humans go out and gets the old crew back together. Everyone has moved on in their lives, but they’re all convinced to come back and help save the day. It just looks like a fun time. It blows my mind that The Muppets aren’t out there more often. It’s a great franchise and the characters have become part of Americana. I suppose it could be a good thing because I think we’re past the horrible CGI era. You just know someone wanted to Pixar this shit up or to make it 3D. That’s NOT The Muppets. The Muppets are pure and an art form of their own. I am excited to see this one. It’s been way too long.
