Moneyball

BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

I remember hearing about this movie and I thought it was a comedy. For some reason I thought it was “It’s a Mad Mad Mad World”, but OBVIOUSLY it’s not. I don't know why I thought that in the first place. Error on my part. I’ve missed Brad Pitt playing a real person. This looks like it will be a home run for sure. First of all, we got Aaron Sorkin as the screenwriter. That man writes words like a veteran pitcher throws curve balls. He knows his game and he does it well. Then there’s Jonah Hill playing a non-comedic character. He seems likeable and awkward, but it’s something of more substance than a goofball comedy. Fill out the roster with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Pratt, and more. This movie looks like it should have been called up from the bullpen during the summer for the blockbuster months. Then I realized that it’ll come out right in the middle of the MLB playoffs in time for the World Series. The promotion for this movie will probably pick up hard right when people care the most about major league baseball. It’s a pretty genius move. And it’s based on a true story? This movie will be a good one and this has to be the first Brad Pitt movie I’ve been excited about in a really long time. By the way, I love baseball metaphors.
