Straw Dogs

BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER

I never saw the original, but this is another remake. At least it doesn’t look shitty. I caught the trailer and was hooked. It looks creepy and weird. A screenwriter from LA moves back to her hometown in the deep South. Things are all good, but a group of locals led by her ex boyfriend go ape shit and he has to man up and defend himself, his wife, and his new home. James Marsden plays the writer, Kate Boseworth his wife, and the asshole ex boyfriend is Alexander Skarsgard. That’s definitely a solid cast. James Marsden is underrated and this kind of movie seems like something perfect for him to show off a little bit of his chops. I’m a big fan of Alexander Skarsgard. He’s awesome on True Blood as “Eric”, but he’s more than just an asshole vampire. He looks intense and crazy and shit in this movie. I don’t expect this movie to be life changing or anything. What I expect is an hour and half to two hours of suspense, jumps, and cool moments. A smarter than normal pop corn flick, basically. I’m really interested in this one though because of the casting. It seems like it could be a fun ride. It’s just these kind of movies aren’t all that rewatchable. Maybe two or three viewings tops before it gets boring. One you know where to jump and how it unfolds the fun is over. Never the less, I’m looking forward to seeing this even if it is only one time.
