I feel like this movie should be free. They hooked us with the classic high school comedies of American Pie, American Pie 2, and even American Wedding. I was in high school when these movies came out so of course my exposure to them was pretty high. The first one is always the best one for sure. The whole opening scene, the pie scene, the “flute in my…” scene, and just so many moments. Even the dick-iest of film snobs can’t deny the charm and damn near perfection of the first movie. I know what you’re saying “perfect? Really? That’s A BIG statement”. This movie sought out to be a dirty high school movie with some heart. Mission accomplished. The original cast, well most of it, stuck it out for three movies. THEN they started making these HORRIBLE straight to DVD sequels. These movies were the worst. Some shit about band camp. Always featuring a Stiffler. The whole “naked mile” thing too. Shit was weak. I think the ONLY reason anyone gave these movies a chance was because of the association with American Pie. For that, I feel a little animosity towards the franchise. On the other hand, they brought everyone back. That charm and heart of the first one could be revisited. It just makes me feel old.
