"CHARLIE BARTLETT"
6/18/08
BY MIKEY MIGO

I finally got around to watching "Charlie Bartlett" this past weekend. The trailers made it seem like a modern day Ferris Beuhler with some weird social commentary about the use of prescription drugs. I see Downey Jr. in a movie and I'm interested. He's normally got some good taste in the roles he takes, so I figured there was something more to this movie. The movie came and went in the theatres, but I didn't pass up the chance to watch it. It starred Anton Yelchin, who is like the talented version of Shila Barff. I saw Yelchin in "House of D" this past winter on IFC and was really impressed with his work. In his role of "Charlie", he carried it as well as anyone else could of. He was naturally charismatic and interesting to watch. For me it just took about ten or fifteen minutes to get comfortable with him. Still, he quickly earns your attention. The actual story was rich troubled teen gets popular by playing counselor and giving out prescription drugs to his peers. There just seemed to be a lot going on at times. It's not like it was too much to follow, but you sorta felt like "who cares?" Robert Downy Jr. rocked the role as school principal, but I don't know how much effort he put in. It seemed as if his character from "Less That Zero" came back to life and became a father and school principal. I was a big fan of all the Degrassi cameos and Kat Dennings. Besides being gorgeous, she's a young actress I enjoy watching and developing. You can tell she "gets it" as opposed to the others around her and my age. She's definitely on my list of people I'd like to eventually cross paths with on a future project. I liked this movie, but I'm not sure how much.
