"SUPER BAD"
6/30/10
BY MIKEY MIGO

I would hope you've seen this 2007 modern comedy classic by now. Released in August of that year, it's approaching a three year anniversary. Kind of hard to believe, but not really when you take into account the numerous movies I've seen Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and even Bill Hader in since. This group of actors as well as appearances from numerous other awesome actors made for one of the best comedies in recent years here. It's the story of two low-on-the-totem-pole high school seniors plotting to get laid. The plot has been done, but the story here is what makes it work. It's one marathon of a day where Hill and Cera plot to hook up with their crushes and get laid. To do so they have to get alcohol for the girl's party and with the help their weird friend, Mintz-Plasse in the now iconic "McLovin" role. The series of events for all three take in are hilarious, somewhat realistic feeling, and completely realistic on their late-adolescence vulgarity. I bring this up because I caught about five minutes of it on FX this past week. I was so annoyed by the censoring that I put the DVD in and gave it a watch. It held up. I loved it when it came out, forgot about it, and then now with watching it again I still enjoyed it and laughed my ass off. Odds are, you've seen it so I don't need to tell you WHY it's funny. It just is and hopefully always will be. Jud Apatow's "Superbad", along with "40 Year Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up", are three comedies from the decade that will stand out. Apatow had huge success with these three movies and put a lot of new stars faces on the map. There has been success with his movies, produced or directed, since then but didn't seem to have the same spark of freshness as the original three films. It was funny when I first saw it and its funny three years later. Watch this again and share in the comedic glory that it is.
