Weeds Season 6

BY MIKEY MIGO

If you’ve not seen the sixth season of Weeds or the show at all be warned I’m going to spoil pretty much everything for you. Leave this column and check out one of the many others worthy of your time and thought. Okay? We’re good? Fine. So, not too long ago the sixth season of Showtime’s “Weeds” had its finale. I’ve been watching this show since it first came on and have gone through many different emotions about the show. There have times I’ve heralded it as one of TV’s best shows and in recent seasons complaining about wasting my time being loyal to it when it’s not up to par. Even in its weakest, I still find myself wanting to ride this out to the end. I just hope that end is sooner than later. I loved the Agrestic years. Those are the backbone of this series. Once the house burnt down and they moved and found themselves in Mexico it sucked. For awhile there the antics of Doug and Andy were pretty much the only thing keeping me on board. Then Shane killed that chick and the family hit the road. At first it was like they were shaking off the rust, but by the end of the season I was on the edge of my seat and as excited as I was the Mexican/Armenian mobster stand off from the end of season two. I think what I enjoyed about this season most was the fact that it allows the viewer to come to terms with the fact that there’s no hope in liking Nancy Botwin anymore. We’re allowed to let go because it’s very clear that she’s a horrible mother and a horrible person. All she cares about is herself. Sure she got her family out of there and got herself traded for Silas, but it felt like it was more out of obligation. At the end when she walked out and was confronted with the FBI on the surface it’s to get her family out of harms way. That’s bullshit. She wanted to make sure SHE didn’t die. The only thing she could do to ensure herself indulgent life continues is to turn herself in. That’s all. The way she treats Andy like a whipping boy, Shane as a monster, Silas as mafia boss, and Doug as a nothing is pathetic. Sure she’s charming and sexy, but in the end it’s all about her and gratifying her need for adrenaline and drama. I’m really hoping the show ends with a seventh season with her finally paying for her misdeeds. That said, I’m back on board. The show is intrigueing and riding on all cyllanders. I really want to know what happens next season to Nancy and the family. I want that closure. And I know it sounds like I hate Mary Louise Parker, but that’s not the case. It’s just she’s doing a GREAT job with this character. If she’s not filling her arms with awards this season then I don’t know what’s wrong with the world. I also dug the fact that the show got a little more into “weed” again. It wasn’t full on weed, even though we get a cool cameo of Linda Hamilton as a lesbian weed dealer, but about hashish and eventually a kind of lame made up “drug drink”. I think the whole stoner-iffic weedness we’re all wanting from the show is never going to happen. Doug gave it to us in small doses, but it’s not what we’re hoping for and giggling our wishes of. But the show is still called “Weeds”. A little bit of fan-fiction fantasy finale would involve Nancy getting away and dealing weed again. She eventually gets caught when she caves in, smokes, and gets pulled over. A cop smells it on her and searches the car to find her stash. She’s then caught and/or killed in a shoot out. Something crazy like that. I trust creator, producer, and writer Jenji Kohan to do it right…
