Boardwalk Empire Season One

I remember first hearing about this show and instantly getting excited about it. The premise sounded great, the quality looked top notch, and the cast and crew behind it are known to rock. That is exactly what they did, rock. To be general, it’s like Mad Men and The Sopranos got together in a spree of crime and skirt chasing. The show doesn’t go overboard with gimmicks and fireworks. The show slowly unfolds the picture bigger and bigger until you get to the point where you can almost not handle it all. There’s just so much going on in this first season that it almost feels impossible to recollect every single character’s situation or even name for that matter. The makers of this show really painted a vivid world and vision here. It’s ridiculous how broad and bold the atmosphere in this show is. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a television series to do something on this magnitude. While the scope of this show is huge, there isn’t any doubt as to who the starts of the show are. Steve Buscemi is the man. He’s the main central character of the show. He brings to life a very laid back and manipulative politician. He’s one part mafia boss and one part circus ring leader. Michael Pitt plays a younger guy who’s just trying to get his place in the world by any means. I’m a big fan of Pitt as it is, but he is chewing up the scenery here. I know it’s easy to say James Franco is the “new James Dean”, but Pitt is more like it. Michael Pitt’s character leaves Buscemi’s character in Atlantic City to go to Chicago to get work and build a name for himself. He does that and has some awesome interactions and scenes. Other than that, is Michael Shannon playing a crazy fed who’s stalking more than crime stopping. He starts to make you feel really uncomfortable after awhile. He deserves some statues for his performance here. It’s amazing. This is a show that HBO can rest its chips on for a good long run. There are so many great talents on the show, interesting characters, and history to be lived out. This might be the best new show of 2010-2011 season.
