This doesn’t look all that good, but it’s one of those movies that might end up surprising you. The old goings was that Hollywood would dump their less anticipated movies in the winter. I never got this because I can think of many comedies that were released this time of year that were great. This almost makes you want to go out of your way to like a movie, just to stick it to the man. Hall Pass looks kind of lame. I like the Farrelly Brother’s old movies. Owen Wilson is sometimes funny. What makes me mildly curious about this movie is that it gives Jason Sudeikis a chance to star in a movie. He’s a great character actor, but seeing him run with the ball is going to be fun. On the female front, we have Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate. You can’t complain about that either. Both are consistently funny and in the right situations get more laughs than the male leads they’re sided with. The supporting cast looks cool too. Richard Jenkins looks to be playing a hilarious role and I look forward to that and then we have the awesome Stephen Merchant. It’s going to be cool to see him away from his normal partnet in crime Ricky Gervais. On paper this movie sounds like it could be great, but then the trailer comes and is kind of meh. It looks like it could be amusing, but I don’t see it blowing me away or really being something I’ll go out of my way to watch after the first viewing. Maybe the trailer just sucks, which is what I’m hoping for. The plot is that two middle age guys are given a “Hall Pass” for a week by their wives to do whatever and I suppose whomever. Whatever. I think there are sitcoms in Russia who haven’t done this plot yet, but I’m an American and can see where this is going a mile away. The premise is lame, but this is character driven and that could be where it shines. I’m hopeful, but there are definitely movies I’m more curious about.
