Dear Bill Murray…

I think open letters are hokey. It’s normally someone trying to make some big stance or point and aiming at someone they have no reach to talk to. I know there are people out there spending hours on their “Dear Mister President! Here are my problems!” letters. I’ve seen a lot of “open letters” to certain groups, for certain causes, and a whole plethora of reasons. It’s like saying, “Look at me, folks! I’m going to get on my soap box now! Look aaaaat me!”

I think there’s a time everyone has to be vocal about their stances. For me, that’s now. As lame as an “open letter” is, it’s better than just rambling about it on a message forum. I ‘m going probably regret this, but dammit it’s hokey… but this is my time to be vocal.

(Dear Bill Murray)

I doubt you even own a computer or read the internet. You’re too cool for that. I’m a huge fan of your work. I’ve grown up with your movies and there are plenty of great moments in your career that I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying. You’re easily one of my favorite actors and celebrities of all time. A big reason for that are the movies “Ghostbusters” and “Ghostbusters II”. I loved your other movies too. My fandom doesn’t solely rest in that one role. It’s everything. I loved “Where the Buffalo Roam”, “Groundhog Day”, “What About Bob?”, “Scrooged”, “Stripes”, and so on and so on. All great. I’ve not even gotten into the great work you’ve done in the Wes Anderson movies. You’re a living legend and I can only hope you know how appreciated your work has been.

Okay, so I got the part about me being a huge fan out of the way. Now on to the reason for the ranting... I recently read that you’re not going to be taking part in the planned “Ghostbusters III”. Why the hell not? Is the story idea THAT bad? You did Garfield and a few of “throw away” roles. There have been plenty of movies I’ve watched specifically to see you do your thing that sort of sucked. I’m not complaining.

I know a lot of people don’t want Ghostbusters 3 to happen because it could tarnish the great movie legacy the first two earned. I get that. I wouldn’t want my memories of LOVING these movies to be screwed up because of a horrible movie. Is that it? Why not throw two cents at your friends? Why not say, “This and this could be changed. I’d like to do THIS in the movie or can we change or add THIS”? Why not say, “I’ll do Ghostbusters 3 if you get Wes Anderson to direct it”. In that case, we’d all win.

Either way, I’m still a fan. I anticipate your next project and will watch it as soon as I can. I just don’t get what shunning the idea of a Ghostbusters 3 project when you played around with the character and movie in “Zombieland”. That small portion of the movie was clearly a highlight for most people my age who watched it. People love the Ghostbusters. A whole new generation could be exposed.

You have to get this a lot. People have to be asking you about Ghostbusters a lot. Why so negative about it? No one is saying “Stop acting! Stop living! Go do it now! We’re celebrating it. It’d be cool if you’d come to the party.

Thanks!

So yeah. I just wrote an open letter to Bill Murray. I don’t know why I just wrote that, but sometimes you just have to let your heart control your typing fingers. Now, back to your day!
