Sports & Sporks: March 2012!
03/13/12
BY MIKEY MIGO

For those that know me, know that I’m a sports fan. I’m a weird sports fan, but one none the less. It’s just not my style to get too emotional or attached. I’m a huge loyalist of my Chicago teams, but you’re not going to aggravate me with obnoxious sports talk. I like the spectacle, the business, the hoopla. I have a huge enjoyment in looking at the transaction section on the sports page. I like trades, team structures, and marketing. It’s weird. I find myself siding with owners. If my Chicago teams can’t win them all I at least hope for the best story.

Right now we’re in the midst of a whole lot of sports history and I don’t think many of us realize it. Living in Indiana, but closer to Chicago than Indianapolis I’m stuck in limbo. A lot of people around me are Colts fans, but there is still a huge draw of Bears fans still in the Chicagoland area. I hate the Colts. They suck. Their fans make me want to puke on myself. It’s just they weren’t many Colts fans at all until they started winning. Now it’s as fair weather as a White Sox fan. These Colt fan shmucks got real quiet this past season. Now the only sound from them is excuses, reasonings, and delusions as to why Peyton Manning is gone. How awesome is that? Peyton Manning is being forced out by the Colts. Fans are hating on their management for wanting to move on and not pay the very questionable shit QB 28 million. How hard is that to understand? They didn’t fire him and kick him out. They choose not to pay an injured man more money in one year than most of us will see in our entire lives. I’m sorry your team lost its “leader”, but you should be happy your owner didn’t lose his mind. Cry all you want. In fact, cry more. It makes me smile.

Meanwhile, March Madness is upon us. People are going to pretend to know what they’re talking about in terms of college basketball. Yes, Mr. Dick Vitale… YOU know who’s going to be the “dark horse”. The hundreds of hours of researching stats and games finally pays off. Whatever. Its blind predictions with bullshit reasonings. No one cares about these kids. They’re only important if they’re future NBA players. Other than that, you’re cheering for a jersey color.

NHL sucks. It’s going to be the play offs sooner or later. It’s the same crap as always. If you like hockey then my trust for you has its limits. Sorry. It’s just true. Major League Baseball is in spring training. All I know is some glorified DH is getting paid a QUARTY OF A BILLION DOLLARS to play baseball. Yeah, I said BILLION. Then some pitcher from Japan is getting over a hundred million bucks without pitching one inning in regular league play. Basically people are now getting paid to be boring. Baseball is the Jude Law of sports. Sure sometimes Jude Law can be entertaining, but at the end of the day who the fuck cares about Jude Law?

I love basketball. The NBA has always been my favorite league and sport. I’ve been riding out the rough years of the Bulls and now I get to have great times with them being so dominate. Derrick Rose is amazing and I eagerly anticipate that first 40 plus point game where he REALLY comes out of his shell. Once that happens, he’ll be unstoppable. Which says a lot, because he’s clearly one of the best the league has the offer in years. Right now the trade deadline is looming and there are plenty of fun trade talks. That’s always fun. Jeremy Lin shows up and kills it in New York. I can’t remember the Knicks being that hyped since Ewing was throwing bows. Still, even in their current glory they lose. Early this month The Boston Celtics beat the Knicks 115 to 111. The real story is that Rajon Rondo made history. He was in the game 47:47. That’s thirteen seconds he was out. The only time he was NOT in the game was THIRTEEN SECONDS. He finished up with 1 steal, 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 20 assists.

Not since the year I was born 1983 had anyone recorded at least 20 assists and 17 rebounds. Magic Johnson was the last to do it and before him the only man was Wilt Chamberlain in 1968.

There is history being made all around us. It’s a shame more people don’t look up from their Facebook and Twitter long enough to realize it.
