WWE Over The Limit Preview
05.15.12
BY MIKEY MIGO

I don’t remember what the main event to Over The Limit 2011. I don’t remember ANYTHING about that show. Nothing stands out of notice. I’m sure there had to be a match or two that were good on it, but the buildup and the promotional importance of Over The Limit is nonexistent in this dojo. Despite looking forward to a few matches, the nonexistent buildup and importance remains.

I know CM Punk and Daniel Bryan can have a great match. It’s just it feels thrown together for shits and giggles. If it’s the start of a new feud or storyline then I’m all for it, but it doesn’t seem to be going that route. I hope I’m wrong. If I have to pick, I’ll go with Daniel Bryan. He just came off losing in a feud to Sheamus and Punk comes through after getting over on Jericho. And if Bryan wins, a rematch and a story can develop. Don’t get me wrong. A Punk/Bryan feud with buildup and time can and will be a classic. I just hope they pull the trigger on it.

Sheamus defends his title in a “Fatal Four Way” against Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, and Alberto Del Rio. I really wanted to see Jericho and Del Rio have a feud, but with both of them being bad guys it’s not going to work. It’s been said that Jericho isn’t leaving just yet and I would have to assume he has a good reason to. I’m guessing it could be to run a story with Sheamus. I’m all for that, if it’s the case. I wonder if Rey Mysterio would have factored into this somehow if he hadn’t been suspended for his second “Wellness Violation”. Regardless of what does progress from this, Sheamus retains his belt.

The rest of the undercard is still taking shape. As I write this there is a Divas Championship match between Layla and Beth Phoenix and a Tag Title Match. I don’t care who wins this match at all. Beth is good and Layla is more than capable of putting on a good match. There just hasn’t been anything about this that makes me care. I literally just flipped a coin. Layla won. I think the Tag Team Title Match could be decent. I don’t really like the teaming of Kofi and Truth, but they’ll do good together. It just feels a little forced to have them together. These two guys have nothing in common except for ONE thing. I’m not saying “it’s because their black” or anything. Nope. Not at all. I’d much rather see Kofi and Dolph Ziggler in a focused solo storyline. Dolph teaming up with Jack Swagger is a waste. I’d love to see Swagger turn on Dolph AND Truth turn on Kofi; thus forming a Swagger/Truth combo… but it won’t happen. If they want to build a story, Dolph and Swagger win. I’m going with that.

As much as I’d like to see Punk and Bryan get 45 minutes in the main event of the night, anything involving John Cena is almost always guaranteed to go last. I hope I’m wrong. I remember rumors in the late 90’s about Johnny Ace coming into WWE. I’m fairly certain I’ve seen him work a dark match or two at the time. I always knew him as the “Ace Crusher” guy. He can’t be horrible in the ring. I’m almost fearful that he can still out-wrestle Cena. It seems too obvious that Cena will overcome the odds and beat the hell out of Laurinaitis. I smell shenanigans and the start to one of the big summer storylines. Because of that John Laurinaitis gets the win and the bragging rights over Cena.
