Your Meme Is Lame
07.24.12
BY MIKEY MIGO

The internet is a dangerous place. Among all the evil things you’re automatically thinking about, there is a whole other level of bad. Every day we use social media and the internet. We reveal a lot about ourselves based on how we use facebook. What we post will be “out there” forever. For-ev-ver! The danger I’m speaking of is how people are recklessly making themselves seem lame. You might be lame. That’s cool. We’re all lame in our own ways. There are the anti-posters. They shun facebook and are often saying things like “oh, man… I’ve not checked my facebook in like three days!”. Whatever. You’re a liar…and lame. What’s worse though, the snobby social media hypocrite or the reckless lame stain?

People don’t even exchange words anymore. They post pictures with “clever” one-liners on there. Be it a cute baby, a movie character, a weird science guy, or something else ironically and obscurely trendy. These “memes” are horrible. You’re just revealing how lame you are to people who were kind enough to click “Accept” on their page and be “friends” with you. Nothing you’re posting is entertaining anyone. If you’re entertained, keep that shit to yourself.

And it gets a little sadder… Some folks are copy and pasting “witty sayings” and posting them. Their dimmer of friends will then “Like” it and think the copy and paster is SO clever. Then the people who insist the food they’re eating is the best food ever… good for you, but we do NOT need to see it. Your “feast” looks gross to everyone else 11 times out of 10. I think this is where the term “lame sauce” comes into play.

How about the shameless promoters? A little promotion isn’t bad, but there is a certain limit to what people can put up with. Over-promoting on facebook is only going to turn the people who do check in with your promotional stuff off.

What’s creepy is when people start becoming “facebook preachers”. It’s not even a religious thing. It’s mainly people posting overly-positive stuff. I appreciate positivity, but when you sound like a bootleg Tony Robbins you’re being lame. I also see a lot of “keep ya head up, young homie” type of Def Jam poetry shit. Nothing you’re saying is “insightful” or even really informed outside of your own skewed perspective.

Who is lamer? The people who posts this shit or the people who “like” it or “retweets” it?

Certainly not the person who complains about it…
