Conan: Show Zero
11.03.10
BY KEITH EVANS

On Monday, November 8th, Conan O’Brien finally returns to late night television. After, what seems like, years of nonsense, we will finally be blessed with CoCo’s legendary and unique of talk show tomfoolery. Just as most loyal fans of his have, it appears Conan has been chomping at the bit to return to his former glory.

Between the early postings of some funny videos, his tour that featured comedy, as well as music, and the launch of the official Team Coco site, Mr. O’Brien has kept himself fresh and relevant. Needless to say, when I heard that he was having a sort of “pre-show” show (simulcasted on his Team Coco site, Facebook, and Youtube) there was really nothing that would deter my interest.

Conan presents Show Zero, what some would call an extravagant commercial, was actually pretty enjoyable despite the fact of its mere 4 minute 51 second length. Even though I was anticipating more, maybe even a view of the new set, it did its job. He shot it from his conference room with about 20 Team Coco fans in attendance. Jerry VaVino (on piccolo, solo) was his house band. Jim Parsons (Sheldon of Big Bang Theory) was the guest, whom answered one question. Steel Train, musical guest, played the first chord from their new album. He closed with the innovative rhythmic movements of the Dancing Taco. Oh yeah, and Andy Richter was there.

That’s it. And in my opinion, that’s all he needed. Like he said at the very beginning of this “lap dance” of a show, things on the internet have to be quick. This presentation was to the point and served its purpose sufficiently. Apparently Diet Coke was a heavily needed sponsor (“Diet Coke, you should drink it, often”) and though may chock this up as a hoax turned commercial, truth be told, Conan could have easily not done anything at all. The fact that Conan does these little things for his fans is what makes Coco the man. There are legions of fans who missed his bright Irish presence and I, personally can’t wait for November 8th’s premiere.

Conan (11/10c on TBS), you should watch it, often. . . .
