Well over a month ago I was looking at the upcoming months trying to figure out schedules, plan ahead, and look out for holidays. I just so happens that one of the best holidays around falls on “Savage Animal” Wednesday. This holiday is 420.
During my younger days of being a complete pot head, I developed a weird attachment to 420. For the life of me, years went on and no matter how often or how much I smoked that come April 20th SOMETHING happened to where I couldn’t really enjoy the day. So in true smite I decided to be ANTI-420. Yeah, a stoner who is ANTI-420. I mean besides, the kids and people out there throwing up peace signs and saying “whoa! 420, man!” were the stoners that make us productive kind look bad. In the same sense of Valentine’s Day, I don’t think it’s right for people to single out one day like that to show a loved one affection. With 4/20, if you’re a true stoner you’re going to be just as high on 4/19, 4/21, or 10/31 or 12/25… it doesn’t matter. Birds gotta fly and smokers gotta smoke.
Never the less, I’m going to be a Scrooge McSmoke or anything. If people want to take a day and play into the stereotypes of a stoner then by all means take a few for me. The days of the tye-dye hippie are over. If I see anyone young doing the hippy thing now I just get annoyed because it’s forced and a bit passe’ in 2011. It’s the stereotypes that ruin everything. Sadly, some stereotypes ARE true. Stoner music is awesome.
That’s where my crazy idea came in to play. I wanted to make a list of FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY SONGS. Originally I wanted the entire list to be songs specifically about weed. Then I wanted to include some songs from movies about weed. Before I knew I wanted to include some songs that I personally enjoy on weed. Here’s how it all went down.
* I was NOT going to attempt to rank them. I wouldn’t even know where to begin if I went with that route. Instead, I just lumped them all together in groups of whatever letter the song started with. Even in the groups it’s not alphabetical. I’m a 27 year old man. I was not about to alphabetize 420 song titles.
* I put caps on bands. It would have been a huge cop out to just list every song by Cypress Hill, Pink Floyd, or Snoop. I tried to limit each act to about five or so songs to the list. This made it a bit tougher, but also gave room to some bands that would probably not have made the list.
* So basically, that’s my warning. This list represents years of precision, dedication, and love for marijuana. If I missed some obvious choices, my bad. No harm meant. If they’re obvious to you, they might not me to me and vice-versa. Feel free to share your own thoughts…
