[MUSIC] THE SAVAGE ANIMAL
"A Perfect Week"
08.13.08
BY MIKEY MIGO

There are some weeks and then there are SOME WEEKS. I don't know what that means, but this past one was a long one. Between my father's B-Day, a cookout, reinstalling Windows and all my programs, working on the movie, and handling other projects it's been a normal chaotic week for me. Still, somehow it felt like a long week.

RAW served its purpose this week. CM Punk was lame and boring, while the rest of the show was entertaining and well done. I REALLY enjoy the fact that the mid card talent is getting feuds, storylines, and some airtime. Jericho and Michaels are having the feud of the year, but some weeks like these things don't progress much at all. I am not a fan of Batista or Cena so it makes the main program a tad annoying and frustrating to follow. I can totally see Orton coming back, helping Batista, and then hooking up with Orton and DiBiase as some new form of Evolution. The fact that Cena called him out on his past with Flair and Triple H just pads that theory some more. We'll see…

A WEEK OF MUSIC.
Time can't change him, but David Bowie can sure sing about time.

I was having a discussion about music and for some crazy and random reason the discussion got me thinking about songs that have a day of the week in the title. In my head there were millions of songs and the topic would be very detailed and elaborate.

I would be wrong. The millions of song titles that I knew were there, but I couldn't quite remember were all in my head. For some reason, I just assumed that there'd be more other than the ones that instantly came to mind. Is it because these songs are just THAT good or because maybe putting a day of the week in a song title is a secret scheme that only musicians know about? Who knows.

Still, my main objective in this mental madness of mine was to put together my "perfect week". I'd need a song for each day of the week. For instance, "Blue Monday" by New Order would be my Monday song and so on. The title had to contain the actual day of the week and had to at least be listenable.

Lets see how this project worked out…

MONDAY
Notable Tracks:
"Manic Monday" by The Bangles, "Stormy Monday"
My Pick: "Blue Monday" by New Order
I go with "Blue Monday" because "Manic Monday" isn't nearly as catchy, dark, and cool. In the very early part of this decade I believe Orgy covered it and I was hooked on the song and at the time the band all because of it.

TUESDAY
Notable Tracks:
"Love You Till Tuesday" by David Bowie, "Ruby Tuesday" by The Rolling Stones.
My Pick:"Tuesdays Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
I'm not a fan of Skynard. I respect the band and their accomplishments, but it's not for a northerner like me. "Sweet Home Alabama" is annoying to me and now thanks to Rob Zombie's Devils Rejects, "Freebird" creeps me out. I go with "Tuesdays Gone" because it's been used in a lot of movies I'm a fan of. I am a huge fan of Bowie, but as you'll see, he owns this concept.

WEDNESDAY
Notable Tracks:
"Wednesday Week" by Elvis Costello, "Wednesday" by Jimmy Eat World
My Pick: N/A
None of them. I'm not a fan of either. I have nothing against either artist/band, but I just can't choose out of the two. I do enjoy the music of Wednesday 13. That doesn't count though, so I guess we'll move on…

THURSDAY
Notable Tracks:
N/A
My Pick:"Thursdays Child" by David Bowie
There was no other song that I could think of or find that I liked enough to even include on my "Notable Tracks". I AM a fan of "Thursdays Child" by Bowie. I think I first heard it on his Greatest Hit's CD and I think it's a very underappreciated Bowie track.

FRIDAY
Notable Tracks:
"Friday On My Mind" by David Bowie
My Pick:"Friday, I'm In Love" by The Cure
Again, not many choices to pick from. Bowie, again, gets on the notable track list as I go with The Cure this time around. I don't own any Cure albums. I like the Cure, but I've just never crossed that bridge into full fandom. This is one of those songs that when I hear it on the radio I'm pleasantly surprised, but soon after I forget about it. He talks about the days of the week in this one so I must go with it.

SATURDAY
Notable Tracks:
"Drive In Saturday" by David Bowie, "Saturday Nite" by Earth, Wind, and Fire
My Pick:"Saturday Night's Alright" by Elton John
For some reason I thought there'd be more Saturday songs. Bowie sneaks in again and the Earth, Wind, and Fire track is a classic, but I have to dig a little deeper. I am not scared to pick "Saturday Night's Alright" by Elton John. We may have different preferences, but that's not a reason to mock or hide from his music. Seriously, I had a conversation with two separate people about the list and got weird stand-offish responses when naming this pick. Why? Are we that close-minded. The song is catchy and I've heard some decent rock covers of it.

SUNDAY
Notable Tracks:
"Sunday" by David Bowie, "Blue Sunday" by The Doors, "Gloomy Sunday" by Billie Holiday, "Pleasant Valley Sunday" by The Monkees
My Pick:"Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2
If I didn't pick "Sunday Bloody Sunday" then I'd be torturing myself. The song is one of the best of all time and it's hands down one of the best "day of the week in the song title" songs ever. Sunday isn't as boring as some of the other days of the week as it has Bowie, The Doors, Billie Holiday, and The Monkees all putting out some great songs.

So, if you're currently in a band or plan to be REMEMBER. The weekend tracks are a bit more broad, but the mid week is wide open. Even if you're not that good, you might have a better shot at getting attention. For some reason we love our "days of the week" songs and you won't have much/any competition if you go with Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm calling it now. There WILL be a hit "Wednesday" or "Thursday" track to come within the next few years.

What would be your "perfect week"?
